This is the very first version of the Atari 800 operators manual, written in 1979 by Liza Loop. Only 200 of this version were printed. There are many differences between what's shown in this manual and the actual production hardware and software.
This manual gave examples in the WRONG BASIC, as ATARI BASIC would have:
- Required all string variables (i.e. A$, B$, TEXT$) to have been defined [i.e. DIM A$(20) ] before using.
- Never reported a "SYNTAX ERROR ##", just "ERROR ###"
- Would not accept commands in lower case, only UPPER case.
- Never said "ATARI BASIC", but "READY"
So, obviously, this manual was created before the official ATARI BASIC cartridge was developed! How cool!
